Artist residency in a middle school
ABOUT A WORKER was invited by the Académie de Strasbourg to lead a 10-day creative workshop with 6th and 7th grade students from Collège Forlen, located in the Alsace region of France.
The goal of the workshop was to introduce young students to the world of fashion design, craftsmanship, and sustainability by creating a fashion show entirely made from upcycled materials.
Throughout the ten days, students explored each step of the creative process — from concept development and sketching to cutting, assembling, and embellishing garments. Guided by ABOUT A WORKER, they collaborated to transform leftover fabrics and materials donated by VELCOREX, a local velvet manufacturer, into unique fashion pieces.
The resulting collection reflected the students’ personal vision of their region, expressed through the local materials they worked with. They designed jackets and masks as symbolic representations of Alsace
The workshop concluded with a public fashion show inside the school, where students proudly presented their creations. The event celebrated collaboration, creativity, and environmental awareness, while strengthening the connection between local industry, education, and design.
